Comic: I’m going to wake up early

YB_06_10 comic comics cartoon texan in tokyo foreigner in japan manga mangaka waking up early alarm clock

This happens. Often.

As soon as I started working from home, I started getting enough sleep.

But then a funny thing happened: I lost the motivation to drag myself out of bed in the morning. It doesn’t matter if I set an alarm or not, if I don’t have any meetings that day, I can’t wake up before the sun rises.

The colder it gets, the less I want to drag myself out of bed in the morning…

  1. I agree. No one should have to wake up until sunrise. This seems especially true in winter when there is more incentive to stay in bed than to get out of bed in the morning. I have an alarm clock radio that turns on at 7 AM every weekday. Since I don’t have to be at work until 9 AM, my wife and I will cuddle for most of the first hour. During the half of the year or so when the sun rises before 7 AM, I’m usually awake shortly after sunrise, which in the summer comes at 5:30 in the morning. My wife will still sleep until 7 AM; and I wish I could too.

  2. This is me on a daily basis. My husband’s ideal daily schedule would be to wake up at 6, when in truth, we have no reason to be awake until 9. He settled for 7, but we usually wake up around 8 these days.

Side note, I had all of your comics on my amazon kindle account that was wiped from my phone and I am no longer able to access. It’s a shame, but I’m looking forward to buying them again, perhaps physical copies this time, if possible.

  3. I have trouble getting out of the bed too!
That is why I always sleep with the shutters open, so the sunlight or the noise in the street help me waking up. But it doesn’t work when you have to way up so early that there is neither light nor noise yet.

  4. No one should have to arise before the sun, unless they have to for work. I had a job in a bakery, before going to school for the day, where I would have to be in at 5:00 am. That was my one time in life I ever woke up that early for an extended period, hopefully it was my last. There is something so unnatural feeling about waking up in the dark, even though I do have trouble sleeping at times and am awake in the dark, but that passes.

  5. Story of my life. I saw a meme once that has become my motto in life: “If people were meant to pop out of bed we’d all sleep in toasters.”

  6. I was born early in the morning (6:27 am) and I just cannot function properly in the morning. I try and sleep in as much as I can.
Always been a night owl too, my problem is that I can’t get to sleep in the first place and it’s close to 3 am before I’m even tired or sleepy.

  7. I feel like…anything before 7am is just asking for grump.

LOL! Marvin is shirking his duty!

  9. Clearly you need an obnoxious cat or dog. They can help you get up and stay up!

  10. No one should get up before the sun rises! :P

  11. This comic lies. Ryosuke doesn’t sleep with a pillow!

I must be odd as when I wake up, I am ready to get up and find it difficult to stay in. I am also very WIDEawake, something the rest of the family does not like.

On the other hand, I do fade in the evening and go to bed 10:30 to 11:00

    • I was the same way when I had a job. Had to quit when we moved for Hubby’s work. I’d wake up after sleeping in until 7:30 on a Saturday morning, and immediately get up. Hubby wouldn’t wake until almost noon and it intensely bothered me that he was wasting the day by sleeping! haha

Of course, even then, I couldn’t get up earlier than I needed to. I’d tried getting up 60-90 minutes early to get in a run or some Bible reading before I had to get ready for work, and I could never do that.

  13. Why would anyone want to get up before the sun ???

    • In my case, it would be for something astronomical. (As in, related to astronomy.) I got myself up early in the end of October to witness Mars, Jupiter, and Venus all close together, and it was beautiful. Of course, even then I still had to wait for something else to wake me up and keep me from getting back to sleep. (In this particular case, it was my dog “talking” loudly in her sleep at 5:30am.)

  14. Every time LOL. When I have outside motivation to get up at a certain time (meeting someone, church, appointment, etc.), then it’s easy. Trying to get myself up early? Nope.

  15. I am the same way as a stay at home mom! I co-sleep and we sleep in together its so nice! You should check out My Miracle Morning I havent yet myself but I have heard so many amazing things from many of my teammates! Its on my wish list.

  16. Same ! It seems like the more I get the hang of high school life, the less and less I want to get out of bed no matter how early I set the alarm [4:30 AM. Early I know but sometimes homework + me time = YES]. Plus when you have dogs cuddling up against you…lord.

  17. hehehehehe Been there done that. Now, I make myself get up … put the alarm clock across the room so I HAVE to get up to get it. But I am one of those people who if my feet hit the floor, I am UP!

    Good luck with that!
