Ryosuke and I got married!

We're off to South America for our honeymoon - see you in a couple weeks!

Grace and Ryosuke Mineta Wedding January 2, 2014 Angel Springs Texas

Hi everyone.

Ryosuke and I were married last night at the rustic Angel Springs event center in Texas. It was a lovely ceremony of friends, family, and loved ones. Now we’re off for a 7 week honeymoon though Las Vegas, Florida, Peru, and Bolivia.

If you would like to help us with our honeymoon, click here.

Otherwise, keep us in your prayers and thoughts. I’ve set my graduation capstone thesis to publish for the next couple weeks (as well as a couple of comics), so there should still be new content. See you in a couple weeks!

Congratulations on getting married! I just found your blog by coincidence and we’re in quite a similar situation. I’m a 22 year old American girl living in Tokyo, and just recently married a Japanese goofball of my own (December 6th!) in America while we were visiting my family. I’ve met some foreign women with Japanese husbands, but never one close in age to me. I think I might do the “share your story” that you have going :)

    • Hi Emma,

Thanks for the message. Wow, how neat! Congrats on the wedding :)
I’ve also met some foreign women with Japanese husbands, but the closest in age I’ve met so far was still about 8 years older than me. Glad you found my blog!
And yes, please do a “share your story” bit. I would love to read it!

  2. Hi, congratulation on your marriage, and have a great honeymoon.
I am a Chinese man who married a Canadian born Slovenian. We have been happily married for the past 25 years! We have one daughter, beautiful and cute. Every where we went, Europe, Asia or here at home, everyone said just how beautiful she is. So, I hope you will celebrate your 25th wedding anniversary later and blessed with beautiful children. I can guarantee you, you will have beautiful children together.

    • Congrats on 25 years! That is incredible!
I hope to make it to 25 years someday – thank you for your incredibly kind words of encouragement!

  3. Congratulations! I am currently studying in Seoul for the year and ran across your blog while looking at other Asian study broad blogs. It is so much fun reading your posts and seeing how similar and different Japan and South Korea is. Glad to have met another Southerner with a love for Asia (I am from NC). Hope y’all are having a wonderful honeymoon and I can’t wait to read what adventures y’all will have in the future!!!

    • Thanks :)

I just read through a couple of your blog posts – they seem fun! I hope you are able to keep it up past the 2 month mark (the 2 month blogging mark seems to be when post people quit….)

Congradulations from Kendall and I Grace!! :) We hope you and Ryosuke have safe and fun travels as a married couple!

  5. Congrats! I might study in Japan soon and hopefully maybe love… And yes, Japanese women do show interest in dating foreign men. Enjoy your honeymoon! ;)

  6. Congratulations to you and Ryosuke!! Although I do not know you personally, I’m very happy for you both :) I too know what it is like to be in an interracial relationship and would like to talk with you about certain things in the near future if you don’t mind. You’re a huge inspiration for me and I’m very happy I found your blog!! I wish you both a happy and wonderful honeymoon (and beautiful journey together) and hope to talk to you soon! :) ~Nikki

    • Thank you :)

I won’t have TOO much time for email for the next couple weeks (my husband thinks is so silly the amount of time I spend online) – but if you would be interested in sharing your story for the site that would be GREAT. If not, that’s ok :) I totally understand the need for privacy…

if you want to, check out this link: http://howibecametexan.com/share-your-story/

  7. Congratulations! Warm greetings from Hong Kong. It is so nice to see intercultural couples like you go through a lot of things and finally get married. You two are definitely my role model to look up to. And I am interested in doing academic research on intercultural relationship. You are the example I have been looking for!

Again, congratulations and have fun! Good luck :)

    • Thank you! And if you publish anything regarding interracial relationships, let me know. I would be interested in reading it (there is a bit of literature out there, but not a ton…).

Im glad to hear you will be in Peru, as thats were i am from. You will love it, specially Cusco! And good thing you chose the summer to go there, Lima is full of life during this season.
Good luck and enjoy your honeymoon!

  9. Congrats on your marriage.Have fun!.Have you ever thought of modelling clothing for departmental stores or casual clothing stores in Japan since you like modelling for clothes?

    • I haven’t – but thanks! Honestly, I’m not sure how someone would even get into that line of business. When I get back to Japan, I will check that out, though. Thanks!

  10. Congratulations Grace! Wishing you a relaxing and rejuvenating honeymoon, and look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you return.

Elated and very happy for both of you. Congrats.

  12. Congratulations!! You look so beautiful :) Enjoy the honeymoon! Do you think that you’ll do a ceremony in Japan as well? And the only problem is I just discovered your wonderful blog two hours ago (and have been on it ever since) and now I’ll have to survive without new posts XD Ahh well, better to have loved and lost :P

    • Hahahaha thank you! Even though my husband made me promise no blogging while on our honeymoon, I can probably sneak in a couple posts here and there. I mean, if he’s not checking the internet, he has no way of knowing if I’m publishing anything or not!

  13. It was a perfect evening! You were a beautiful bride, and we all basked in your love and happiness. The toasts clearly showed that you both are admired and adored. But I wouldn’t call Angel Springs “rustic” – the cabins for the wedding night were rustic-elegant, I would call the event center lovely: Italy meets Texas, maybe? Highly recommended for anyone considering a Central Texas wedding!
